The Walkability Grade provides a comprehensive assessment of how easy it is to get around by foot. This grade takes into account key factors, such as residents walking to work, nearby things to do, access to parks, and area safety. Learn where our data comes from.

Factors Considered

Walk to Work The percent of residents whose primary means of commuting to work is walking. U.S. Census 35.0%
Bike to Work The percent of residents whose primary means of commuting to work is by bike. U.S. Census 20.0%
Population Density The total number of residents per square mile. U.S. Census 15.0%
Access to Bars Per Area A measure of the proximity (per square mile) of Bars and similar establishments. U.S. Census 5.0%
Access to Coffee Shops Per Area A measure of the proximity (per square mile) of Coffee Shops and similar establishments. U.S. Census 5.0%
Access to Grocery Stores Per Area A measure of the proximity (per square mile) of Grocery Stores. U.S. Census 5.0%
Access to Restaurants Per Area A measure of the proximity (per square mile) of Full-Service Restaurants. U.S. Census 5.0%
Crime & Safety Grade Based on violent and property crime rates. Niche 5.0%
Parks A measure of the availability of Parks. Open Street Map 5.0%

The same methodology is used to produce the Walkability Grade for each graded place. Statistics are primarily obtained from the U.S. Census and represent the most recent data available.
